The law firm LawWin (Beopseung in Korean) recently announced that it has entered into a strategic cooperation agreement with the Brazilian law firm Advocacia Internacional George Cunha. The deal will strengthen LawWin’s services to clients in the Brazil market and allow LawWin to provide quick and efficient legal services both to Korean firms seeking business in the Brazilian market and foreign firms in South America that wish to do business in Korea.

Advocacia Internacional George Cunha, located in Sao Paolo, Brazil and headed by George Cunha, is known as a firm with over 25 years of experience with a unique aggregation of private international law and civil and business law expertise.LawWin was founded in 2008 by Lee Seong-woo and operates six offices throughout the country. Comprising more than 30 experienced attorneys, LawWin is known for its expertise in criminal law, cross-border transactions, real estate and intellectual property.

Lee Seung-woo, managing partner of LawWin, said, “Brazil is rapidly developing into an economic powerhouse, and the Korean government has been implementing cooperative projects by establishing various groups with Brazil in a variety of industrial areas, including trade, investment, resources, energy, technology, education and agriculture. We expect to be able to provide extensive legal services to enterprises who want to expand into either country.”

Korean companies looking to do business in Brazil often struggle to deal with the country’s federal administrative system, which can be quite complex. Foreign companies may also struggle to build business in Korea due to language and cultural barriers. Many attribute the slow pace of cooperative projects between the two countries to these types of obstacles.

With the strategic cooperation agreement, LawWin now has access to the services of one of the best firms in Brazil. In addition, LawWin expects the agreement to facilitate further cross-border legal services, particularly to other Latin American countries. At the same time, LawWin is now primed to give proactive and innovative legal services for the Korean market to foreign firms from the region. The two firms have agreed to several cooperative approaches, including personnel exchanges, workshops and seminars, and direct legal consultation for clients.

“Through this agreement, LawWin is able to provide high-quality legal advice on tax and tariff policies of both countries,” Lee said. “We can help both firms from Latin America entering the Korean market and Korean firms looking to expand into the Latin American region. LawWin will serve as a bridge promoting the globalization of expert and advanced legal services in Korea.”
